Who Are You?

For the second time, on the podcast I shared a page from my personal journal titled “Who Am I”, and the thought behind that action was to encourage other women to get to know themselves, and I'll tell you why.

As we journey through life, and more specifically as we journey through womanhood, we go through seasons. Seasons that are marked by change, and those changes more than anything else are meant to grow and propel us to the next season of our lives. and each season builds upon the previous, to take on the next thing, and the next, and the next.

What I want you to understand though is that not every season requires the same level of energy, or the same actions. In fact, every new season may require us to be a different version of ourselves, it may require us to take on a different role, and sometimes even change location. After all, it is a journey. One thing that remains constant though is that with every new season comes change, and those changes become the sum total of our evolution.

The other thing I want you to understand is that these seasons are cyclical. Much like the seasons of life, there’s spring, summer, fall or autumn, and winter. A season of planting, a season of growth, and a season of reaping or harvest. I remember when I was a young girl, harvest time was my most favorite. Around November my church would have a harvest concert and all these activities that brought families together. I loved it! It’s still my most favorite, my birthday is in November and so is the Thanksgiving holiday for those of you who celebrate. And so each one requires us to prepare differently.

I want to encourage you today to ask yourself what season you're in right now. Is it a season of planting, you have a vision for your life that you would love to see come to fruition? Are you in a season of growth, are you being stretched right now, having to take on more than usual, facing challenges perhaps. Or are you in a season of harvest? You’ve planted the seed, worked through the season to nurture that seed, watched it grow, and now you’re seeing the fruits of your labor. Maybe you’re in the winter season of this particular cycle of your life, where you’re trying to figure out what’s next. Perhaps you already know what’s next, and so you’re laying the foundation.

Every cycle, each season, provides new opportunities for us to connect with ourselves and others. But most importantly, ourselves. Take the time to make those connections at the level you need to. Take the time to get to know yourself, decide today who you are in this season. Like who you are in this season, because it will determine who you become in the next. Know who you are, like who you are, love her, become her.

Some of the ways you can make those connections with yourself is through self-reflection. Journaling for me is a really great way to self reflect. Don't be afraid to sit with and have conversations with yourself, contrary to popular belief it is quite normal. Take stock of what your values are, your hopes, your dreams and visions. Ask yourself, who am I today? What do you like or don't like? Explore why or why not. Then decide do you like who you are. Do you love who you are. I always say if you don't love yourself how then can you expect others to, and my reasoning on that might be flawed. I'd love to know what you think.
